Whether you have been hesitant to try chiropractic care or are simply curious about what happens beyond the adjustment, this episode gives you an honest, straightforward look at modern chiropractic practice.

Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Blake Derrick, and you’re listening to the podcast from Calhoun Spine Care and Wellness Center, right here in Calhoun, Georgia. Today we’re tackling something I get asked about all the time. What does a chiropractor actually do? Because there are a lot of myths floating around out there, and I want to clear the air.

So let’s start with the big one. A lot of people think chiropractors just crack your back and send you home. Now, I completely understand where that idea comes from. But here’s the thing… chiropractic care is so much more than that. What we’re really doing is evaluating the spine and the musculoskeletal system to find areas where movement is restricted, where joints aren’t working the way they should, and where that dysfunction might be causing pain or affecting how your body moves and functions. The adjustment, that satisfying pop you sometimes hear, is just one tool we use. It’s a precise, controlled movement applied to a specific joint to help restore proper motion. It’s not random, and it’s not just about the sound.

Here’s another myth I hear all the time. People say chiropractic care isn’t safe. And I really want to address this one directly, because I know it keeps some folks from getting help they genuinely need. Chiropractic adjustments, when performed by a licensed doctor of chiropractic, are considered one of the safest forms of treatment available for spine-related pain and musculoskeletal conditions. We go through years of rigorous education and clinical training. We’re trained to evaluate each patient individually, to know when chiropractic care is appropriate, and importantly, to know when it isn’t and when to refer out. Your safety is always the first conversation we have before anything else happens.

Now let me talk about another one. Some people believe that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever. I hear that and I completely understand the hesitation. The truth is, your care plan is always your choice. Some patients come in for a specific issue, we address it, they feel better, and they’re on their way. Others find that regular wellness visits help them stay active and feel their best long term. That’s a personal decision, and we will never pressure you. Our job is to give you honest information so you can make the best choice for your own health.

So what can you actually do right now? First, pay attention to how your body feels. If you’re dealing with neck pain, back pain, headaches, or just stiffness that won’t go away, don’t assume you just have to live with it. Second, take a look at your daily habits. How long are you sitting? What does your posture look like when you’re at your desk or looking at your phone? Small changes in how you move and position yourself throughout the day can make a real difference over time.

And if any of this is resonating with you, if you’ve been dealing with discomfort and you’ve been on the fence about chiropractic care, I’d love to have a conversation with you. At Calhoun Spine Care and Wellness Center, we sit down with every new patient, we listen, we do a thorough evaluation, and we explain everything we find in plain language. No pressure, no rush.

You deserve to feel good and to understand your options. That’s what we’re here for.
