Hello, everybody. Dr. Blake with Calhoun Spine and Wellness. I’m here just to talk about a problem we see oftentimes in our office and sciatica. Sciatica is really defined as pain coming from the lower back or buttock area. All the way down the back of the leg through the knee and out to the bottom of the foot.
So I want to give a few tips today on some things that you can do at home should you experience sciatica type pain. And the first one is going to be an exercise that you do in a chair. If you would cross your legs. We’re going to cross your legs like this and then we’re going to bend the torso forward as far as you can go comfortably.
You’ll feel this pull in your buttocks. And it would stretch some of your lower back. Once you’ve done that and held it for about a minute or two, you’ll switch legs and repeat to the other side. And again, you’ll feel this in the buttocks on the left side, actually. All right. The next exercise, the next step I want to show you is go to the middle here.
I want you to turn your torso toward me at about a 45 degree angle, cross your leg over, reach and pull. Pull it to your torso. So you’re pulling your knee towards your torso. Again, you’re going to feel this in the buttock region. After you’ve held that for a minute or two, switch and do the other side.
And pull it towards your, pulling it towards the middle part of your chest. Very good, hold it a minute or two. These are some of the exercises we do here in the office to help our patients who have sciatica. Try this at home, hopefully it helps, but if not, we’re always here to help, we deal with this all the time.
Through chiropractic adjustments, we have special therapeutic type exercises that we teach in office, and also use decompression and even laser therapy, so give us a call.
